Eucalyptus cinerea, commonly known as the Silver Dollar Tree, is a tender perennial shrub prized for its distinctive round, silvery blue-green leaves that grow along gracefully pendant branches. These smooth, coin-shaped leaves provide striking contrast in flower arrangements and are aromatic when crushed, making them ideal for both fresh and dried displays. This versatile plant thrives as an indoor houseplant or as a dramatic garden specimen. Ready to harvest in 120 to 150 days from planting, it can reach tree-like proportions of 7m (22') tall when protected over winter in mild climates or greenhouses. Start seeds indoors 10 to 12 weeks before the last frost. Eucalyptus seeds require patience, taking approximately 21 days to germinate at 18–24°C (65–75°F) in consistent, moist conditions. Once sprouted, provide bright light and good air circulation to prevent damping off. Transplant seedlings at 10–13cm tall into containers for indoor growing or outdoors once nighttime temperatures stay above 10°C. Plant in full sun with well-drained, moderately rich soil. Prune indoor plants to maintain compact size, or harvest branches as needed for floral arrangements. Best suited for experienced growers who can provide the precise conditions these seeds demand.
