Measuring the electrical conductivity is the easiest way to keep track of the total amount of nutritional ionic dissolved salts available in solution. In scientific words, when soluble nutrients are added to water, they dissolve to form ions; some have positive charges and others carry negative charges, this creates a potential for electricity to move through the enriched water, increasing its electrical conductivity.

This electrical conductivity meter has been specially designed for heavy feeding hydroponic crops that have higher than normal EC during their growing cycle.
