Hostas are shade tolerant plants native to northeast Asia; China, Japan, Korea and far east Russia. Gibōshi is partial to moist soil idea for filling up low light areas of the garden with their large rich green foliage. Plantain lilies are all edible and are cultivated in parts of Asia as vegetables.
