Cylindra Beet

Cylindra beet is a sweet heirloom variety first introduced to the US from Europe in 1892. Its distinctive cylindrical shape make it ideal for pickling and slicing, while the tender leaves work beautifully as salad greens; slightly sweeter than most other beet varieties. Roots grow to 20cm (8") long with deep red flesh. Nearly two-thirds of the root emerges above ground; many gardeners hill soil around plants as they develop to keep skins tender and protect from insects. These seeds also produce particularly attractive micro-greens.
