Dill's Atlantic Giant pumpkin seeds produce the world's largest pumpkins, bred in eastern Canada by Howard Dill. While a typical backyard grower can easily yield fruits weighing 200 to 500 lbs with basic care, these giants can reach 1,000 lbs or more, with the record standing at 2,624.6 lbs. Plants develop massive vines up to 50 feet long and require substantial space, full sun, and fertile soil.
For maximum size, prepare a 20 x 20 foot growing area, digging three feet deep and filling with soil enriched with composted manure and glacial rock dust. Apply balanced organic fertilizer at transplant and feed every two weeks with liquid kelp or fish fertilizer. Once fruiting begins, remove all female flowers except one to concentrate the plant's energy. Place a tarp or board beneath the developing fruit to aid in moving it when mature.
