Citrus sinensis.
This is a very late-ripening Portuguese citrus variety. The fruit of these trees are very late in maturing and hold well on the trees through summer without loss of quality. Appears very similar if not identical to Valencia. Don João has been much planted in Portugal in recent years and on a small scale in Morocco, and is currently being used for juice in Spain.
Rootstocks of accession: Carrizo citrange, C-35 citrange.
Season of ripeness at Riverside, California: March to July.
Prepared by the Givaudan Citrus Variety Collection at The University of California Riverside.
