Citrus medica var. sarcodactylis contains no pulp or juice, but the fragrant yellow rind and pith are edible. The shrub features long, irregular branches covered in thorns with large, oblong pale green leaves and white flowers tinted purplish from the outside grow in fragrant clusters. The fruit contain only the white pith and sometimes a small amount of acidic pulp, but many of them are completely juiceless and some are seedless. The plant is sensitive to frost, as well as intense heat and drought. It grows best in a temperate climate.
