Papaver orientale: Pizzicato poppy seeds produce a superb semi-dwarf mix of red, scarlet, orange, salmon, mauve, rose, pink, and white flowers. Large, cup-shaped blooms reach 15-20cm (6-8") in diameter, with up to twenty flowers per plant followed by attractive seed pods for easy harvesting. Best direct sown in fall or mid-winter, these poppies grow to 50cm (19") on stiff stems that withstand windy conditions. Flowers appear in June and July, bridging the gap between spring bulbs and summer blooms. After flowering, seed heads dry and foliage fades completely, returning with autumn rains. Ideal for xeriscaping and deer-resistant.
Perennial.
Average seeds per gram: 3593.
