Seville Sour Orange Plant

Citrus × aurantium, the bitter or marmalade orange, is a vigorous evergreen tree yielding intensely fragrant blossoms and acidic, high pectin fruit. Native to Southeast Asia, it is a hybrid of the pomelo and mandarin orange. The blossoms are the source of Neroli oil, a staple in high end perfumery. The oranges have thick, wrinkled deep orange skin when ripe. The flesh is too sour and bitter to eat raw but is the essential ingredient for traditional British marmalade.
