Surefire Sour Cherry

Surefire is a cross between Morello type and Montmorency type sour cherries developed at Cornell University, NY in the late 1990s. Bloom period starts nearly a week later than Montmorency while ripening time is almost 2 weeks later inspiring the name Surefire by the tree’s ability to avoid most spring frosts. Surefire is slightly less productive than Montmorency but bears larger fruit that are bright red with firm, red flesh. Surefire has become a popular cherry tree variety for You Pick orchards as the tree is is easy to maintain and has an open growth habit.
