Papaver nudicaule: The Iceland Poppy is a hardy, short-lived perennial, thriving as a biennial in coastal gardens. Self-sowing readily, these plants persist for years. Large, cup-shaped blooms feature delicate crepe-paper texture in soft pastels; apricot, gold, tangerine, and white. Sow seeds in early spring or late fall where plants will grow permanently. Flower stalks reach approximately 30cm (12") tall and rank among the longest-lasting poppies for cut arrangements. Highly attractive to honeybees and bumblebees, seeds are easy to collect and disperse. Unlike California Poppies, this variety typically remains where planted. All plant parts are mildly toxic but acrid enough that animals avoid them.
Average seeds per gram: 4008.
