Biological Control

Biopesticides, bioinsecticides and biofungicides in the form of predatory and parasitic organisms that act as natural enemies of plant insect and larval pests, parasites, pathogens, herbivores and fungi, diseases, invasive plants and protect seeds against degradation. Biocontrol eliminates the use of harmful chemicals and enables organic agriculture. Introduction, augmentation or conservation of predators, parasitoids, pathogens or competitors leads to maintaining the population of a natural enemy for the particular infestation. Non chemical integrated pest management agents bred to be used in field crops, indoor greenhouses, home gardens and large scale landscaping should be applied with thorough understanding of the local biodiversity composition to prevent the decline of non target species.
