Citrus seed is used to grow fresh rootstocks to propagate robust, disease resistant, adaptable fruiting plants to render them vigorous and hardy, ensuring high quality fruit and productive trees through bud and scion grafting.
Furr citrandarin, Sunki mandarin x Swingle trifoliate orange is a vigorous citrus rootstock known for its excellent disease resistance and high yield potential. Developed by the USDA in California and released in 2009, the hybrid produces medium to large, vigorous trees that are generally larger than those on related rootstocks. Trees on C-57 are highly productive and often start fruiting a year earlier than many traditional rootstocks, It is highly tolerant to Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV), very tolerant to Phytophthora (root rot), and shows exceptional resistance to the citrus nematode. It exhibits good tolerance to freezing, especially in young trees, and is moderately tolerant of calcareous (high pH) soils. It also performs well in saline conditions and areas prone to seasonal flooding. While no rootstock is fully immune to Huanglongbing (HLB or citrus greening), C-57 is noted for maintaining good yields and lower-than-average fruit drop under high HLB pressure. Requires more frequent pruning.
1 quart contains an average of 5000 seeds.
