Chanterelle - Girolle

Cantharellus cibarius with its faint aroma of apricots is a mycorrhizal fungi, it forms a symbiotic relationship with its favourite hardwood trees; pine, fir, spruce, beech, oak, maple, poplar or birch and grows at their damp and mossy leaf-covered base. Good drainage, a pH of 4 to 5.5 and low nitrogen levels will contribute to growing this noble mushroom. Spread spawn under the tree of your choice with plenty of organic matter like coniferous wood chips . Keep moist. Chanterelle enjoys warmth and shade and will flourish in hot weather after a good soak from late spring into early fall. You will need as much patience for growing chanterelle as fruit trees, the first mushrooms should appear within two to three years.
