Orchard Grass

Dactylis glomerata, commonly known as Cock's-foot and Cat Grass, is a tall perennial bunching tussock grass built for cool-season performance. It thrives in shade, tolerates drought, and handles summer heat with ease. This versatile grass excels as a premium silage and hay producer, delivering exceptional quality forage prized by livestock for its fine texture, excellent palatability, and high sugar content at the immature stage. Fast-growing with superior summer re-growth compared to Timothy Grass, it reaches heights of 140cm (55"). Beyond animal feed, Orchard Grass serves as an outstanding cover crop. When tilled under, it enriches soil with valuable carbon and organic matter, making it ideal for fall or early spring applications. Long-lived and productive, it's a reliable choice for sustainable farming. Sowing rate: 4.5kg (10 lbs) per acre. For mixed plantings, combine 2.5kg (5 lbs) orchard grass with 4.5kg (10 lbs) crimson clover per acre.
