Towering spikes adorned with magenta gladiolus flowers.

Flowers in: 60 to 80 days.

Plant height: 40'' to 50''.

  • Gladiolus grow from corms into unbranched longitudinal leaves enclosed in a sheath and inflorescences that bear one to several flowers.
  • The spectacular colourful giant flower spikes of gladioli cultivars is the result of centuries of extensive hybridization and selection.
  • Gladiolus is propagated from cormlets offset by the parent corm and from seed, both of which take several years to grow to flowering size.
  • Gladioli grow naturally in warm climates, dig up clumps and divide every few years to keep the plants vigorous.
  • In temperate climates, the corms must be lifted in autumn once the leaves dry out and stored in a frost free place to be replanted in spring.
  • Subsequent plantings every two weeks in cold zones will ensure a longer availability of gladiolus flowers.
  • Plant gladiolus corms 3'' to 5'' deep, 4'' to 6'' apart, in rows spaced 12'' to 36'' far.
  • Hill soil 6'' up around the stalk before the plants blooms to prevent gladiolus from tipping over.
  • Grow in full sun.
  • Gladiolus makes excellent cut flowers with tall stems.
  • Plant en masse for long lasting, colourful single blooms, bunches and bouquets for your vases all season long.
