Selected from fields in Hubei and Sichuan that had been devastated after a very bad freeze, from branches on satsuma trees that had survived the freeze, and rated for three characteristics; cold hardiness, fruit quality and tree vigour. In addition ‘China S-9’ has a smoother peel than most other satsumas.
Acceptable tree vigour, good fruit quality and cold hardiness.
Rootstocks of accession: Carrizo citrange, C-35 citrange.
Season of ripeness in the climatic conditions of Riverside, California: October to December.
