In a deep water culture or DWC system the plant roots are fully submerged in a water based nutrient solution. The nutritive hydroponic solution is aerated to give the roots oxygen, so the plant can maintain constant and steady growth. Hydroponic media like expanded clay pebbles, perlite, rock wool, coco or other porous materials are used by the roots to grip upon, so the plants get their nutrition and oxygen from the deep nutrient rich water the roots are submerged in rather than soil. DWC hydroponics systems allow for growing large vegetative fruiting and flowering plants, including vines and shrubs in any available space.
