Caladium forms part of the family Araceae. The genus is native to South America and grows in. open areas of forest and river banks. Caladium is propagated by dividing its tubers. A tropical plant, Caladium is grown as a tender tuberous plant indoors, in pots, in greenhouses and as an annual lifted before first frost in cold climates. All parts of the plants are poisonous. Caladium prefers moderate shade, indirect sunlight, high humidity and adequate watering. The plant goes dormant during dry seasons.
