California Orange Poppy

Eschscholzia californica: The true orange California poppy and official state flower of California. This hardy annual wildflower thrives in arid conditions and is exceptionally drought tolerant, making it ideal for xeriscaping. Native to Mexico and California, it produces vibrant orange blooms that intensify when planted near purple flowers. The plant self-seeds readily from dried pods, though it's easily managed and not classified as noxious. Hardy in Zones 8-10, it may overwinter in warmer climates. Named after German botanist Johann Friedrich von Eschscholtz.
