Scientific name: Aphidius matricariae.
Aphidius is a genus of insects of the parasitoid wasp family Braconidae. Many wasp species within the Aphidius genus are applied as a biological pest control method for aphids on organic and conventional field agriculture, greenhouse crops, urban landscaping and home gardens. Aphidius wasps are endoparasitoids of aphids, the adult female of the small parasitic wasp lays eggs in an aphid. When the eggs hatch, the wasp larvae feed on the inside of the aphid. As the larvae mature, the hosts die and become slightly enlarged or mummified, often becoming tan or yellow. Complete metamorphosis occurs within the host. The adult parasite chews the sugar out of the mummy leaving a hole.
Use for:
- Tobacco aphid (Myzus persicae var. nicotianae).
- Green peach potato aphid (Myzus persicae var. persicae).
Mode of action:
Adult parasitic wasps emerge from the mummies and females lay their eggs into aphids. The next generation of parasitic wasps develops inside the aphid, which converts into a leathery mummy. The adult parasitic wasp emerges through a hole at the rear of the mummy. The first mummies are noticed in the crop around 10 to 14 days after the first introduction. Visually, successful control results in parasitized aphids turning into a brown mummy.
Product specifications:
| Pack size | 1000 or 5000 mummies. |
| Presentation | 100 ml or 250 ml bottle. |
| Carrier | Wood chips. |
Application:
- Spread the biocontrol material on rock wool slabs or in application boxes.
- Make sure the natural enemy material remains dry and is not moved from its introduction site for at least a few days.
Dosage:
The dosage of Aphipar M depends on climate, crop and aphid density and should always be adjusted to the particular situation. Start introduction preventively soon after planting of the crop in known infestation prone areas or at first signs of pest presence. Introduction rates typically range from 0.25 to 4 per m2/release. Releases should be repeated at least 3 times.

- Most effective between 15°C and 25°C / 59°F and 77°F.
- Effectivity is reduced at temperatures above 28°C / 82°F.
- Can be used in combination with other aphid biocontrol agents.
