Monterey Day Neutral Strawberry

Monterey, bred by the University of California Davis is moderately day neutral, unlike June bearing types, the plants are not highly sensitive to day length and will produce fruit throughout the summer and into the fall as long as temperatures are moderate, making them a good choice for gardeners who want a longer harvest season. Compared to the popular Albion strawberry variety, Monterey is stronger flowering with a similar production pattern, may require more space, with less firm but larger fruits and similar post harvest traits. Monterey strawberries have outstanding flavour with a distinct sweet aftertaste that is unique among California strawberry cultivars.
Although susceptible to powdery mildew, Sphaerotheca macularis, the vigorous Monterey plants have a good disease resistance profile, the variety does well in organic applications.
