Poncirus trifoliata 'Flying Dragon' are premier, cold hardy and dwarfing rootstocks often used to limit grafted citrus trees to 2m - 2.5m / 6ft - 8ft in height. They significantly improve cold tolerance, down to -20ºC, fruit quality and are tolerant of wet soils.
- Dwarfing Capability: It is the most effective dwarfing rootstock for citrus, resulting in trees that are roughly 60% to 70% smaller than those on standard rootstocks.
- Cold Hardiness: Extremely hardy, with roots and trees capable of surviving in USDA zones 5 to 9, passing some of this resilience to the scion.
- Appearance: Known for its distinct twisted, zigzagged branches and large, curved thorns.
- Grafting: Ideal for grafting, with seedlings typically reaching grafting size (8-10mm) in their first year.
- Soil Tolerance: Highly tolerant of heavy, damp soils in winter.
Grown as a 12" to 24" single trunk whip with little or no branching. Calliper measures 1/8" to 1/4" diameter. Additional growing time may be required to reach sufficient calliper for your preferred method of grafting.
