Cymbopogon flexuosus: Lemongrass is a tropical grass that thrives in temperate regions with proper care. Sow seeds indoors in late winter using bottom heat, maintaining 21°C (70°F) and moist conditions for germination in 5–21 days. Transplant outdoors in full sun once night temperatures exceed 10°C (50°F). This tender perennial excels in containers and greenhouses, producing aromatic, productive growth throughout summer. At season's end, move potted plants to a frost-free location with good air circulation. Reduce watering to keep soil barely moist. Harvest mature stalks (at least 15mm thick) using secateurs. Fresh lemongrass can be crushed or sliced thinly to break down tough fibers for culinary use, or dried for tea and frozen for soups and curry paste.
