Precious Apricot

Precious is an exceptional but uncommon relatively late blooming, disease resistant apricot variety that handles late frosts unusually well. Precious apricot plants originate from an old tree discovered just south of Georgian Bay that is thought to be one of the hardy seedlings brought to North America around 1900 by the local Fruit Growers Association from Russia, where apricot trees are more hardy in bud, blossom later in spring, with smaller fruit but are very productive. Precious apricot trees are dependable producers in the Pacific Northwest, Quebec CA and the New England States USA.

Fruit: Small to medium sized fruit with thick yellow orange skin and sweet, melting flesh.
Use: Fresh eating, preserve cooked with sugar and dehydrate into dried apricot.
Hardiness: Zone 3.
Ripening: Harvest in late July.
Pollination: Self fertile.
Predominant characteristic: Late blooming apricot.
