Papaver rhoeas: Heirloom Flanders poppies produces scarlet-red flowers, are quite drought tolerant, making them ideal for xeriscaping schemes. They self-sow reliably in nearly any soil without becoming invasive. Perfect for areas where grasses grow tall in summer, these poppies reach around 60cm (24") in height. Harvest dried seed heads in late summer for beautiful dried flower arrangements. Plants produce abundant tiny seeds that are simple to collect and share as gifts. Mildly toxic to grazing animals with an acrid taste that deters most wildlife, making this a valuable deer-resistant variety that creates a spectacular display when planted in large drifts.
