Lavandula angustifolia cultivars are commonly known as English lavender, a strongly aromatic shrub attracting and supporting bees and butterflies with flowers yielding an abundance of nectar. Lavender flourishes in dry, well drained sandy or gravelly alkaline soils in full sun with good air circulation. High humidity and constantly wet soil in summer and winter will contribute to root rot.
