This LILY oyster strain comes from the Aquaculture Genetics and Breeding Technology Center at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science brood stock then bred at the Horn Point Lab Oyster Hatchery at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science under low salinity hatchery conditions averaging 10 ppt. The range is between 5 ppt to 15 ppt depending on the year.

- The ancestors of this stock are a composite of early mass selected lines with established disease tolerance that are now bred using family breeding techniques.

Diploid oysters are available to be used for marine restoration work and triploid oysters are most often used in aquaculture because they are sterile and grow faster.
Diploid oysters are selectively bred, disease resistant oysters made under license from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.
Triploid disease resistant oysters are natural triploids produced under license from 4Cs Breeding Technologies, Inc.
