Sow Lovage seeds for one of the tallest garden herbs. This striking perennial reaches 1.8–2.5m (6–8') in a single season, making it a dramatic accent in any garden. A member of the Apiaceae family, cousin to the carrot, Lovage offers multiple culinary uses: harvest leaves for salads, soups, and broths with a distinctly celery-like flavour, or eat the root as a vegetable. Allow plants to bloom for their attractive flower heads, which draw beneficial and predatory insects to your garden. The seeds that follow can be harvested and used as a spice with a fennel-like flavour. One or two plants provide ample supply. Deer resistant and an excellent companion plant for vegetable gardens.
