Scientific name: Transeius montdorensis.

Transeius montdorensis is a very active and mobile subtropical predatory mite, searching for prey on the undersides of leaves and in flowers. The robust beneficial mite is tolerant of warm conditions, can remain active at temperatures as low as 11°C and does not cease activity during periods of low light. Adult females lay single eggs, often on leaf hairs or in other protected areas on the plant. For eggs to successfully hatch, a relative humidity above 60% is required. At an optimal temperature of 25°C / 77°F, the entire lifecycle from egg to adult takes only about 7 days, allowing for a rapid population increase.
A generalist predator, Transeius montdorensis can survive on a variety of food sources, including pollen and honeydew, allowing it to remain in crops even when pest levels are low. However, its primary preys consist of the eggs and larvae of whiteflies and the first and second larval stages of various thrips species. The mite also provides control against other pests such as non webbing spider mites, broad mites and russet mites.
Transeius montdorensis is commercially used preventively or at the beginning of a pest infestation, allowing the predatory mite population to establish before pest pressure becomes too high, for environment friendly integrated pest management in many protected and some non protected crops including medicinal crops, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants, strawberries and cut flowers.

Use:

  • Generalist predatory mite for the control of thrips and whiteflies.
  • Predates on young larvae of various thrips species, eggs and larvae of whitefly.
  • Also has an effect on all stages of non webbing spider mites (e.g. European red mite, Panonychus ulmi) and rust mites.
  • Can survive on pollen or other prey.
  • Do not use in tomato.
  • Can be combined with Orius spp. and whitefly parasitoids. Do not mix with other generalist predatory mites (Amblyseius swirskii, Neoseiulus cucumeris, Amblyseius andersoni and Amblydromalus limonicus).
  • Especially for use in chrysanthemum, builds up high populations in chrysanthemum crops when used in combination with Carpoglyphus lactis as supplementary food.

Mode of action:

Predatory mites pierce their prey with their sucking mouthparts and suck out the contents.

Product specifications:

Pack size 50 000, 250 000 predatory mites.
Presentation 1000 ml bottle, 6 litre bucket.
Carrier Bran and sawdust.

Application:

  • Carefully sprinkle material on leaves.
  • Make sure the material remains on the leaves for at least a few hours after introduction.
  • Can also be applied with automatic release system blowers.

Dosage:

The dosage of Montdo Mite depends on climate, crop and pest density and should always be adjusted to the particular situation. Start introduction as soon as the first pests are detected in the crop. Introduction rates typically range from 25 to 300 per m2/release. Releases should be repeated once or twice, or until control is achieved.

Environmental conditions:

Transeius montdorensis is most effective at temperatures between between 20°C and 32°C / 68°F and 90°F). It is not effective at temperatures below 15°C / 59°F. Transeius montdorensis is sensitive to relative humidity below 70%.
