Citrus aurantifolia is commonly used as a rootstock for its own cultivars and, historically, for other citrus, providing high compatibility, vigorous growth and good soil adaptability, particularly in warm, subtropical regions. It is used to produce fast growing trees, although it is susceptible to citrus tristeza virus and not suitable for areas where the virus is prevalent.
